僕はメールマガジンを結構出しています。ホームページ同様に、スポンサーなどに制限されること無く、自分の意見を
発信できるからです。伝えたい事もありますが、自分が勉強中だから、まとめてついでに発信。そんなケースが英語で
格言です。

　僕は名言、格言から人生をずいぶん学びました。英語の勉強も好きです。それなら格言を、英語でなんて言うのか調
べているうちに、資料が一杯たまりました。これは楽しい、皆さんにも知ってもらいたい、そんな気持ちで発信していま
す。発信が義務になれば、自分でも一生懸命調べるじゃないですか。

6月13日　ロランギャロの覚めやらぬ興奮、そのままウィンブルドンに持ち越しですね。

　Ａ子さんとＢ子さんがペアを組んでいます。Ａ子さんはＢ子さんの先輩です。ダブルスでいろいろアドバイスをします。Ｂ
子さんはＡ子さんの意見を聞かなくてはなりません。先輩ですから聞かない訳にはいかないのが辛いところです。

　例えば、前衛にいるともっと「前に詰めて」。でもA子さんのサービスが緩くて思い切り叩かれてストレートを抜かれてし
まいました。Ａ子さん。「もっとしっかり守ってよ」

　Ｂ子さんがサービスです。実はＡ子さんよりも良いサービスを打ちます。ですから、相手もレシーブはロブが多くなりま
す。Ａ子さんの頭の上にロブが来ます。するとＡ子さんは失敗するのが嫌ですから「お願い！」の一言でさっさかチェン
ジしてしまいます。

　やっとのことでＢ子さんがカバーすると、少し浅くなり、相手のハイボレーがＡ子さんを襲います。決してブロックできな
いボールではないのですが、「もっといいボールを返してよ」とＡ子さん。

　そこでこんな教訓をＡ子さんにプレゼントです。

6月12日　　今日のショートショートはペアリングです。

　強気打子さんは有名なハードヒッター。ストロークなら任せてよとガンガン打ちまくります。シングルスが好きでダブル
スは余り試合に出ていませんでした。

　負気酢嫌子さんは試合に勝ちたくてたまらない主婦のプレーヤー。ダブルスにだけ出るのですが、２回戦とまりでＡ子
さんと組んで、上を狙っています。強気打子さんのハードヒットがあれば、決めは自分がと考えていました。

　さて試合です。練習では二人とも強力で相手にとっては嫌なペアですが、いざ試合になると、お互いに決めなくては気
がすみませんし、ペアのミスを許せません。

　ちょっとしたミスでお互いがコミュニケーションをとらなくなり、自滅で負けてしまいました。実力的には協力し合えばか
なりあるはずなのですが、１＋１＝２以上のはずが、、？

そこで今日の一言です。

　合わぬ蓋あれば合う蓋あり。英語では蓋ではなく、シューズで例えるなどスポーツ的ですね。

　そうダブルスはペアで何が出来るかですよね。一人が決めなら、もう一人は展開を作る側になります。二人が表舞台
ではぶつかってしまうのですね。そんなコンビネーションがダブルスのペアリングの面白さです。

テニスのダブルスは長丁場の協力です。

　標題の金言を直訳すると、「君が死ぬまで (until you are dead)、死んではいけない (don't die)」となる。「死ぬまでは
死ぬな」ということだから、要するに「本当に死んでしまうまでは精一杯生きろ」ということですね。
